From Seticat: Thank you. I enjoyed it and forward it to my SONS and running lists. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/08/15/penguin.knighthood.ap/index.html 'Sir' penguin given Norwegian knighthood * Story Highlights Norwegian regiment awards penguin honorary knighthood King penguin Nils Olav now addressed as "sir" Penguin already has medals for good conduct and long service * Next Article in World » Decrease font Decrease font Enlarge font Enlarge font LONDON ,England (AP) -- Nils Olav already has medals for good conduct and long service. He made honorary colonel-in-chief of the elite Norwegian King's Guard in 2005. And on Friday he was knighted. Penguin Nils Olav inspects soldiers of the Norwegian King's Guard regiment. Penguin Nils Olav inspects soldiers of the Norwegian King's Guard regiment. Not bad for a 90-centimeter (three foot) tall penguin -- actually, three of them. A resident of Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland, the original Nils Olav was made an honorary member of the King's Guard in 1972 after being picked out as the guard's mascot by lieutenant Nils Egelien. The guards adopted him because they often toured the zoo during their visits to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, an annual military music festival, according to zoo spokeswoman Maxine Finlay. The king penguin was named after Egelien and Norway's then-King Olav V. When the penguin died -- Finlay said no one at the zoo knew exactly when -- he was replaced by a second penguin, who inherited Nils Olav's name and rank. The current Nils Olav, the third penguin to serve as the guards' mascot, was promoted from honorable regimental sergeant major to honorary colonel-in-chief in 2005, Finlay said. The knighthood ceremony began Friday morning with speeches and a fanfare before Nils arrived, under escort with the King's Guard Color Detachment. Nils then reviewed the troops lined up outside the penguin enclosure at the zoo, waddling down the row of uniformed soldiers, occasionally stopping to crane his neck and peer inquisitively at their crisp uniforms before being guided forward by his handler. Nils was then knighted by British Maj. Gen. Euan Loudon on behalf of Norway's King Harald V. Loudon dropped the king's sword on both sides of Nils's black-and-white frame, and the penguin's colonel-in-chief badge, tied to his flipper, was swapped for one symbolizing his knighthood. "He'll be a "sir" now," Finlay said. Hot, hot, HOTTEST DAY It will be hottest day of the year. Temperatures will up to the 90's. I am being a super slug!!!! I am not moving from the fan, except to get more iced drinks, gatorade, ice tea or water. I am so prone to heat exhaustion, especially after that 10 mile walk 2 years ago and the 2006 Seattle Half. Not going to that again, No, no, NOPE. Maybe 5 K or 10K but not more half marathons, besides I can't get anyone interested in walking or training with me. But back to heat. LOTS OF FANS!!! LOTS, LOTS, LOTS LOTS OF COOL LIQUIDS!!! Not to mention TV watching. A favorite show of mine called the Sentinel is on the SciFi channel. The cats are doing their Yoga. They have a stretch called Hot Cat. They are whining about not finding the zipper for their fur coats. I think I might upset them and get them a cooling bath. Had a wonderful time with the grandson, well at least a sick grandson. He was having a cold. My son-in-law is in charge in of a local music event, http://www.leavenworthcoffeehouse.org/. There were the whole afternoon of various types of music. But it was a bit hot. The grandson was getting a bit fussy. After cake and singing happy birthday, my daughter took me home. On Friday night, we went to a memorial service of a wood carving friend, Marjorie Griffin. I wrote about her passing earlier. Her family has posted a memorial on U tube. Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PiRq4bugzgThis is a lovely way to be remember. I was not aware that U tube did this. I think it is great. Well now to start packing the van for Autumn War, with all the "stuff" I need to set up and run the archery range. | | Thursday, July 31st, 2008 | | 11:28 am |

Horrible Tennessee shooting. This is good friend of mine, Cat Faber, catsittingstill. Our thoughts are with them. TheNewsTribune.com Section: Front < Back to Regular Story Page Police: Man shot churchgoers over liberal views By DUNCAN MANSFIELD Knoxville's police chief says the man accused of a shooting that killed two people at a Tennessee church targeted the congregation because of its liberal social stance. Chief Sterling Owen IV said Monday that police found a letter in Jim D. Adkisson's car. Owen said Adkisson was apparently frustrated over being out of work and had a "stated hatred of the liberal movement." Adkisson is charged with first-degree murder. Police say a gunman entered the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church during a children's performance Sunday. No children were hurt. The church is known for advocating women's and gay rights and founding an American Civil Liberties Union chapter. Stolen from Enchantedpagan Your result for The Steampunk Style Test... The Scientist You are the Scientist, the embodiment of steampunk’s academic side. Where other technological styles might emphasize the gadgets of the genre, you realize there is more to science than doohickeys and gears. Your accessories are medical bags, test tubes, measuring instruments, and academic papers. You are more likely to carry a compass, quadrant, or ether-attuned spectrometer than a wrench or welding torch. You probably carry a timepiece, and your prolific reading gives you every right to wear spectacles. Perhaps the most distinctive feature of your style is that it combines the frock coats and bustle gowns of the 19th century with the trappings of Victorian science. Try our other Steampunk test here. The Saga of the Home remodel continues. Today we made arrangements for installation of the new water heater. The workman showed up on time and set to work. OK Fine.
When they disconnected the old heater, one of the workman notice that one of hot water copper pipes was kinked, probably by the people who installed the heater in 1995.
Now the work has stopped. We have a plumber coming out later today to do a look-see and possible repair. I think that repair will not be simple, that is involving lots of floor tearing and pipe replacement but we will see what the plumber has to say.
I was going to do the dump today to get rid of my old recliner. Now I don’t think so. That might have to be on Monday.
Sigh! All my wife wanted was to take a hot bath.
Soon we should be having the people who will install the new handicap bathtub. That is the reason for the new water heater. | | Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 | | 11:12 pm |

Bush Sewage Plant makes ballot SAN FRANCISCO - A measure seeking to commemorate President Bush's years in office by slapping his name on a San Francisco sewage plant has qualified for the November ballot. The measure certified Thursday would rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. Supporters say the idea is to commemorate the mess they claim Bush has left behind by actions such as the war in Iraq. Local Republicans say the plan stinks and they will oppose it.
